For most people, a new year means the same old resolutions that will inevitably be broken two months later. For businesses, however, resolutions can help to decide whether the coming year will be a success or a disappointment.
Still, resolutions comprise only a portion of the overall preparation that you should be making for your business. While nothing magically resets with the start of a new year, this shouldn’t stop you from starting fresh. If your business was doing badly last year and you continue on the same course, it will likely be just as bad in 2011. A plan of action, something as simple as committing thoughts and ideas to paper, helps a lot.
Hopefully you already have a plan to attack this year head on, but if not, it is never too late. Better to sit down now and map out as much as you can than wait for next year.
There are a few elements that go a long way in any effective plan:
- Review – what did you do right and wrong last year?
- What could you be doing to make more money and profit in 2011? New products? New salesperson? More marketing?
- What could you be doing to save money? If your sales have been trending up, you may invest more; if not, you need new investment to come from savings.
- Who is going to do what?
- How much is this all going to cost?
With these first simple steps, you are already on your way to starting the year right. As a company that not only utilizes planning on a yearly, monthly and even weekly basis, 360 also has a mission to help other businesses formulate plans that get results.
